Print Your Own Fabric: Shibori! – Nancy Flynn – GetCrafty Columns

This is a nice simple outline of the basics to get started. I can do more finegrained stuff now, but this technique is very flexible and can be used on a lot of fabrics. People don't realise that viscose and lyocell are “natural” fibres because they are actually made from wood pulp dissolved and extruded before solidifying again. I just dyed some white lyocell I bought very cheaply because people thought it was a really weak and boring white cotton jersey. I t can actually be used for those fashionable, very thin knit tops. It also takes a great crinkle when washed in really hot water while tied up!
